Who is Jace?

Jace is the Executive Director and Expedition Leader for the Global Entomology Coalition. His career has been spent exploring the deep connections between insects, ecosystems, and the people who depend on them.

With a background bridging field research and public engagement in entomology, he has built a reputation for transforming complex entomological concepts into stories and experiences that ignite curiosity and inspire conservation philosophies worldwide.

His work centers on one driving idea: if people truly see insects, they will care more about the natural world in ways that move the needle for global conservation. True to this spirit, one of Jace’s favorite things to say is “I don’t know,” a simple phrase he treats not as an admission of failure, but as an open door. An invitation for anyone to learn without embarrassment.

Jace’s entomological journey has taken him from the remote cloud forests of Central America to the mountains of Southeast Asia, working not just with researchers and conservationists, but local communities and indigenous peoples to better understand both the ecological and cultural significance of invertebrates and see the world from all possible perspectives. Through this work, he has cultivated a unique expertise in using insect diversity as a lens to reveal broader environmental challenges and opportunities. His Expedition Entomology program, which brings non-scientists into active research settings, reflect his belief that hands-on discovery builds the strongest advocates for the natural world.

As he examines global insect decline, the pressures of habitat loss, ecosystem toxification, climate disruption, and agricultural intensification, Jace focuses on how solutions can be made accessible to everyone. His passion for public engagement drives the mission of the Global Entomology Coalition: to reshape the world’s perception of insects and use entomology as a foundation for environmental action.

Jace’s approach integrates field biology, education, and innovative conservation strategies to not only elevate the position of insects in science and society, but support the people working to protect them and the communities living alongside them.

An internationally recognized leader in science communication, Jace blends scientific rigor with approachability, using storytelling, photography, and adventurous experiences to break down barriers between scientific institutions and the public. With exciting live events, travelling exhibitions, and speaking engagements worldwide, he invites audiences into the wonder, strangeness, and importance of the insect world.

At the center of his work is a belief that conservation HAS TO be collaborative and inclusive. Jace is committed to building a future where entomology is seen not as a niche specialty, but as a vital bridge between environmental science, culture, and community action worldwide, with people of all nationalities and identities working together.
Through his outreach, research, and efforts with the Global Entomology Coalition, Jace is working to ensure that the smallest animals on Earth receive a fair chance at protection, and that everyone has a place in shaping the future of our planet.
